Qasar is an Arab word meaning “palace”: the flat is located in Palazzo Farace, which is part of the complex named “Case Grandi” (Great Houses), one of the oldest buildings in Capri.
The “palace“ hosted noble residents in Capri during 1300 and 1400: the first part of the building, known as Palazzo Arcucci, just opposite the façade of the church of Santo Stefano, shows very clearly its peculiarity of fortified aristocratic dwelling”. It was founded by Giacomo Arcucci, great Chamberlain and Count of Capri in the XIV cent. The second part is named Palazzo Farace; in 1689 Capitolary Archives, described it as “A large house in front of the Pro-Cathedral with a covered court loggia provided with iron balcony oriented to Naples, with a large hall and other rooms upstairs and downstairs, and an incomplete turret (E. Cerio La vita e la figura di un uomo, 1922 p. 55).
Crossing the iron gate, you can admire the characteristic courtyard with an antique well and Roman ollas.
